1st Regional EDC Round Table in Sofia
(28.-30.03.2003)
summary of
the report:
|
The 1st Regional EDC Round Table was funded by the Swiss
Government and UNESCO and received the full support from the
Council of Europe.
|
18 EDC experts from Albania,
Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Macedonia, Montenegro, Romania
and Serbia, working in Ministries of Education, Universities and NGO,
gathered in Sofia in late March 2003. Unfortunately, participants from
Kosovo were not authorised to receive the needed visa with UNMIK
travel documents.
The main purpose of this work meeting was to draw up plans for an
online information source covering the "Basics of Civic Education" for
this region. This teaching material will be developed by D@dalos and
will be available for teachers and multipliers in their own native
languages on the D@dalos web-site
www.dadalos.org soon. The participants outlined a basic structure
and important content in four working groups.
With this new
teaching unit, teachers will find answers to questions like: What does
civic education encompass? What are the main objectives? Which issues
are crucial? Which methods are best suited for different areas of
education? What are the means of evaluation?
As an important side effect, we discussed the wishes and needs for
further regional co-operation in the field of EDC. All participants
unanimously expressed their desire for exchanging information and best
practice and meet on a regular basis. The follow-up meeting of Sofia
is scheduled for October 2003 in Tirana/Albania.
