Methods of Conflict Analysis (8): Energy Field Analysis

Energy field analyses shed light upon the various 'forces' influencing the events of a conflict along with their effects and strength. They help to assess the interests and influences that exist and how they may succeed.

An energy field analysis provides information on the individual possibilities the various parties to the conflict have, further possibilities for mobilisation and the roles the public and press might play.

The question posed here is a follows: Who and what influences the conflict and in what manner and how, and with what goal? What is important here is to visualise that a specific, nameable conflict is concerned.

Individual Work

The scheme for the energy field analysis can be drafted in individual work. It is also possible to write "who?", "what", "how?", "what with?", "aim?" on a sheet of paper and have it filled out appropriately.

Work in Small Groups

The questions concerned are discussed in small groups here, similar to the manner in which individual work is carried out. Individual work can function as an advance stage to working in small groups.
