Who we are

D@dalos is implementing a regional program in the area of education for democratic citizenship in Southeast Europe since many years. The program consists in an abundant multilingual information resource on the Internet (www.dadalos.org) and a range of training events for teachers, NGO activists and workers, journalists and citizens for democracy learning.

What we offer

From September till November 2006, we offer a distance learning course in German language. Main aims are to deal with the topics of democracy, political parties and European Union as well as to get acquainted with tasks, contents and methods of education for democratic citizenship (EDC). In addition to that, cross-cutting key qualifications such as presentation skills and basics of professional project planning and management are taught.

Participants acquire basic knowledge and skills in the field of EDC and learn how to teach politics in formal and non-formal education. Thereby they take part in developing a democratic political culture in Southeast-Europe.

Schedule

The course consists of three three-day workshops in Sarajevo and two distance learning phases facilitated via e-mail. It is held by Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Schumann (University of Tuebingen/Germany), and Ragnar Mueller (EDC expert and trainer with Pharos e.V. Stuttgart) and Ingrid Halbritter (project director and trainer with D@dalos Sarajevo).

  • September 1 - 3, 2006: first seminar in Sarajevo

  • September 4 - October 5, 2006: first online-phase

  • October 6 - 8, 2006: second seminar in Sarajevo

  • October 9 – November 2nd, 2006: second online phase

  • November 3 – 5, 2006: third seminar in Sarajevo

After the course, there will be follow-up mentoring and activities for individuals and for the group.

Requirements for Participation

  • high motivation for being trained as an EDC multiplier

  • fluency in German (spoken and written)

  • basic skills in using the Internet and e-mail/Internet connection available

  • minimum age: 18 years

  • maximum number of participants: 15

The course is designed for (future) multipliers from schools, universities or NGO in Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Serbia-Montenegro, Kosovo, Albania, Macedonia, Bulgaria and Romania. We expect the participants to be highly motivated and interested in the subject. For the application, the applicant needs to have realistic ideas or visions how to make use of the knowledge s/he will acquire and how to disseminate it. Therefore, it would be desirable if s/he belongs to an institutions or organisation that operates in education.

A certificate will be given to the participants who have passed the final exam and fulfilled all conditions successfully.

Costs

All costs for travel, accommodation, food and visa for the three workshops will be covered after agreement with the organiser.
